Is Your Ice Melt System Ready for Winter?

If you live in Colorado, you woke up this morning (9/20/21) to hear that SNOW FLURRIES in the high country have started.  It might be hard to believe, but winter is just around the corner and you need to be ready!  Given the current supply chain and longer than normal lead times, there is no time to waste to ensure your ice melt system is up and running.

There are 5 main components to an ice melt system:

  1. Boiler
  2. Zone Pumps
  3. Temperature Sensors
  4. Zone Manifolds
  5. Glycol

Each one of these systems has some things to inspect and check for the season.  Here is a list of items we use to make sure your system is up and running:

  • Check Pressure/Temperature Gauge
  • Inspect Vent Piping
  • Check Relief Valve
  • Test Low Water Cutoff
  • Check Boiler Piping for Leaks
  • Turn on Zone Pumps/Inspect for Leaks
  • Check Condensate Drain/Lines
  • Check Glycol Freeze Point/Level
  • Inspect Manifolds for Leaks

It would be too long and difficult to go into every detail for each item, so for this blog, let this be a reminder to contact an experienced technician and get your system ready for the first snowstorm!
